Meet Our Board | Join Our Board

Shady Shakespeare's board serves a vital role in the development and management of our company. Providing managerial and financial guidance, our board actively participates and manages the various committees that help make our company run smoothly. They are members of our community who generously give of their time and energy to help our company grow and be certain of a healthy economic and organizational future.

  BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Kim Phanl Kim Pfahnl - Chair
Ms. Pfahnl received a degree in Theatre Arts from San Jose State University, followed by years of work in children and adult theatre throughout the Bay Area. Kim is excited to be a part of Shady as it enters its 10th year of staging first-rate Shakespeare… for free!
Rose Steele Rose Steele - Treasurer
Ms. Steele is a principal consultant and the CFO of Landry & Bogan, Inc., a firm specializing in the planning and design of facilities for live performance. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Theatre from Western Michigan University and went on to work in theatres in North Carolina, New Orleans, New Jersey, Florida and California before joining the Board of Shady Shakespeare in 2003. Rose is very happy to support this vibrant company as it enters a new stage of growth.
Dinna Myers Dinna Myers – Secretary
Ms. Myers is the Director of Sales and Marketing for Musson Theatrical in Santa Clara. She is also the Secretary of the North American Regional Board of PLASA. She holds a degree in Theatre Arts from San Jose State University. Dinna co-founded Shady Shakespeare in 1999.
Sasha Abrams Sasha Abrams – Board Member:
Sasha Abrams is the senior legal counsel at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, one of the largest private foundations in the United States.  In this role, Sasha manages the operations of the Foundation’s Legal Department, including its grantmaking compliance and staff training programs.  Prior to joining the Foundation, Sasha was an associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in San Francisco where her practice focused on municipal bond financings.  Sasha holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from Stanford University and a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law.  Although Sasha does not have a background in theater, she married into a family of performers and shares their passion for the arts.
Carolyn Cheng Carolyn Wellsfry Cheng – Board Member:
Carolyn Wellsfry Cheng has held a number of paid and voluntee positionsr with bay area non-profits in development and marketing roles. She holds a degree from CSU Sacramento in History and Anthropology, and moved to the bay area 13 years ago for a position in the high-tech industry. She currently works in the medical device industry where she is responsible for demand generation and marketing campaigns. Carolyn lives in Santa Clara with her husband and toddler. In addition to volunteering, Carolyn enjoys swimming with her masters team, organic gardening, and knitting.
Scott Monfort Scott Monfort – Board Member:
Mr. Monfort is a Marketing Representative with APlusClients selling web services to small businesses.  A graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Business Administration, he is interested in the business side of theater.  Athough his background is mainly with small companies selling computer peripherals, he has also worked for large companies such as British Telecom and McDonnell Douglas Networking.  Mr. Monfort was Shady Shakespeare's Volunteer of the Year in 2009, and Consessions Manager in 2010.  He is currently writing two musical plays.
Ellen Hudson Snyder Ellen Hudson-Snyder - Board Member
Ellen, a Bay Area local, is a graduate of Santa Clara University and Carnegie Mellon University and holds degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, Technology Management, Finance, and Software Engineering. Ellen has for the last couple of decades worked in technology in Silicon Valley and is currently managing a  group of engineers. In addition to her passion for theatre and the arts, she also enjoys spending timeoutdoors, soaking up the diverse activities Bay Area has to offer.
  ADVISORY BOARD
Kevin Reardon Kevin Reardon - Advisory Board Member
Kevin Reardon is a Consulting Technical Adviser for Oracle Corporation's Center of Expertise. He has been Technical Director for various Shady Shakespeare productions since 2000 and has been a member of the Board since its 2001. In 2010, Kevin retired from the Board of Directors and moved to the Advisory Board.
Craig Engen Craig Engen - Advisory Board Member
Craig has performed locally with several companies such as Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Opera San Jose, Foothill Musical Theatre, Northside Theatre, Shady Shakespeare Theatre Company, Three of a Perfect Pair Theatre, and Bus Barn Stage Company. He designs sets and props for local companies and is a playwright. He was the Inaugural President of the Board of Directors for Shady Shakespeare Theater Company and continues to serve on the Advisory Board.

Paul Hightower Paul Hightower - Advisory Board Member
Art Director Paul Hightower has been producing branding and marketing creative for the past 20 years. He's managed countless projects for a host of technology and non-tech clients including Adobe, Cisco, FAMSF, HP, Microsoft, Montalvo, Visa, and of course Shady Shakespeare. His background includes tenures at local ad agencies plus his freelance consultancy Studio H. Paul received his B.S. in Graphic Design from San Jose State University and he's pleased to be supporting such a worthy and artistically vibrant cause.
Valerie Singer Valerie Castro-Singer - Advisory Board Member
Valerie has been part of the Shady Shakespeare family since 2002.  As chairperson of the fundraising committee and as a Board Member, she proudly assisted Shady in their mission to bring affordable, quality Shakespeare performances to the South Bay Area. Past Shady projects include stitching costumes, arranging golf tournaments and occasionally loaning the acting services of her husband, Matt, to the Company.  Val retired from the Board in 2011 and is proud to be an Advisory Board member. In her spare time, she works in marketing and sales for sp3 Diamond Technologies, Inc., helping grow thin-film diamond for thermal management.
