What time are the performances?
All performances of Shakespeare in Sanborn Park begin at 7pm.
How much are tickets?
For the first time this year, SSTC will be charging admission to all its performances.
Tickets for Shakespeare in Sanborn Park are $15.00 for premium seating (new, padded grey chairs in the center and side sections in the first 4 rows) and $10.00 for general admission seating (all other seats). If purchasing tickets online at Artsopolis.com, the price will include a $2.00 online processing fee. Kids 17 years of age and younger will continue to be FREE with a paid adult admission!
Where can I buy tickets?
Tickets for all three productions are available on Artsopolis.com. Due to the limited capacity of the space, we recommend purchasing tickets in advance. However, tickets will be available for purchase at the park for shows that are not sold out in advance
All ticket holders will need to check in with the Ticket Tent. Online Ticket holders will need to present their online confirmations and receive SSTC tickets. People purchasing tickets at the park may pay with cash, Visa, or Mastercard.
What is the seating situation?
The seating capacity at Sanborn Park is 250 people. Chairs will be provided for you. You no longer need to bring your own chair. Please see our Seating Information page for more details.
Will you still be passing the hat this summer?
No. However, if you wish to make a donation to continue to support Shakespeare in the Park and to help us keep it free for kids, there will be a donation basket in the concession stand area. Checks can be made out to Shady Shakespeare Theatre Company.
Is the seating reserved?
Seating in both the Premium Section and the General Admission Section is issued on a first come, first served basis. Feel free to arrive early and claim your seats with a blanket and then go and enjoy a picnic in the park. The house will be open for seating at 6:00pm.
What is the parking situation?
There is parking available at the park for $6 per vehicle. For full details, please see our Parking Information Page.
How long do the plays run?
Sanborn Park imposes a curfew that requires all participants be out of the park no later than 10:00pm. Therefore, most performances end at approximately 9:40pm.
Can I drop my child off at the park and pick him or her up after the show?
You can do this, but you must be aware that Sanborn Park closes for entry at sunset and you will not be able to drive into the park to retrieve your child. Furthermore, there is no cellular phone service in the park, and your child will not be able to reach you should they wish to leave early. Shady Shakespeare will accept no responsibility for any child left unattended.
What are those cool thrones in the back of the theatre and how can I sit there?
This is called Royal Seating and is reserved for Crown Members. The people you see sitting there are precious gems and should be fawned upon and their hands kissed. There are three ways you can sit there. One is to to become a Crown Member. We encourage this with all our hearts. The second is to be a member of Artsopolis.com. When these seats are not occupied by large donors or Crown Members, we make them available to the public with Artsopolis e-savers. Finally, if you see these seats are empty, you can enquire as to their availability at the Ticket Tent. If they are not spoken for, you may purchase them for the evening for $200.00. So you can be royal too!!!
Will there be food available at the show?
We have a well-stocked concessions stand where you can purchase wine, water, snacks, cookies, candy, and both cold and hot beverages.
Can we bring a picnic?
Of course! There are several areas in the park to enjoy a picnic before coming down to the performance area to enjoy the show. We recommend, if you come early to picnic, that you come down to the seating area 30-45 minutes before the show time to reserve your seats. Also, the picnic areas are often reserved for weddings and other events, so picnic benches may not be available. Peterson Grove, while conveniently located, is not available to our patrons for picnicking, due to park policy.
Are these shows appropriate for children?
We pride ourselves on providing entertainment for the entire family. Due to graphic content inherent in many of Shakespeare's works, we recommend parents familiarize themselves with the plays and determine if they are appropriate for your particular child. To assist parents we have provided a rating system (see the Family Rating Page) for our productions based on the popular rating system for video gaming.
What about dogs?
As long as they are well socialized, on a leash, and you tend to them just as you would in any public setting.
Is this a dress-up affair?
That is entirely up to you. The performance is outdoors in a park where the terrain is primarily dirt and gravel. We recommend wearing shoes that have good footing (small, high heels are not a good choice) so that you can be safe walking to and from the theatre. The weather can change quickly, so it is highly recommended to bring something warm to put on later in the evening. If you want to bring/wear a hat we request you bring one that won't obstruct someone else's view.
