| the merchant of venice, by William Shakespeare |
Shortly after he decided to direct The Merchant of Venice, director, Bryan Freeman, was actually strolling through the streets of Venice . The beauty, splendor, and opulence of this historic city so entices that it is easy for one to overlook the crumbling foundations which will one day lose this stunning city to the sea. That same deception is rich in Shakespeare’s Venice; we will seduce our audience with the close ties of friendship, young love, and perfection in prose and poetry. However, on the other side of the Bard’s canal floats bloody vengeance, racism, and fate in one of three coffins… Join SSTC this summer as we stage our production in the 16th Century’s Classical, Venetian fashion! |
